The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a neutral and independent international humanitarian organisation, which assists and protects victims of armed conflicts and other situations of violence. The ICRC is currently looking for staff for its support operations in Iraq.

Job Title: Mechanic

Level: B1

Duty Station: Iraq – Baghdad Office

Reports to: Workshop Manager 1                        

Duration of Contract: 12 Month fixed-term contract.

Objective:

The mechanic is responsible of repairs and maintains of ICRC vehicles according to workload planning

and instructions, carries out routine works mainly independently.

Maintenance:

 

  • Carries out repairs on light vehicles, generators, forklifts and other ICRC mechanical equipment and takes part in welding, body repairs and painting as required inside workshop.
  • Carries out preventative maintenance on ICRC vehicles, pumps and generators, according to the internal and/or the manufacturer's specifications/guideline.
  • Ensures that all service and repair forms are correctly filled out and signed.
  • Ensures that spare parts and consumables stocks are kept at the agreed levels; takes part in placing orders for spare parts and equipment as required.
  • Ensures that technical and personal security standards are followed as regards their work.
  • Assists with refuelling and cleaning vehicles where required.
  • Is responsible for tools and other property issued to them by the ICRC.
  • Visit other sides for support and for generators/vehicles Services/ Repair.
  • Work as a black smith for welding if needed during the work inside the workshop.
  • Taking the car to industry area for any external work that need to be done at the external workshop.
  • Assisting in fuel quality test and delivering.

 

Spare parts:

  • Participate on spare parts inventory in accordance with ICRC guidelines.
  • Based on maintenance expectation, propose future required spare parts to workshop manager and spare part storekeeper to order ex GVA/ locally.
  • Ensures that correct spare part orders are purchased from local market.
  • Identifies and lists spare parts required according to diagnose and ensures in collaboration with workshop manager and spare part storekeeper that required parts are supplied to workshop.

 

Safety and security:

  • Using of PPE (Safety shoes, overall, gloves, glasses) inside workshops/ while performing his work.
  • Ensures that all fleet safety, security measures & standards are in place, available and respected.
  • Keeps the workshop maintenance area and tools always clean.
  • Make sure the proper disposal of old batteries, lubricants or obsolete spare parts and materials according to the given Waste Management rules and regulations.

 

Reporting:

  • Reports to the Superior for any malfunction of vehicles and generators
  • Fills in and sign job cards when the works are finished.

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Performs duties and tasks not covered in this job description and provide support to other departments and site locations in Iraq delegation when necessary.
  • Assist on GPS installation and Repair

 

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Education and Professional Experience required:

 

  • Technical diploma or vocational training certificate in Mechanics (automotive or generator).
  • Additional certification in diesel engine maintenance, vehicle diagnostics, or related fields is an asset.
  • Minimum 2 Years experience in mechanic especially diesel engine.
  • Minimum 2 Years experience in an organisation or company workshop.
  • Valid Driving License, able to drive manual gear.
  • Fluent command of Arabic, basic command of English.
