PURPOSE OF DIVISION:

Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) has been working in Iraq for more than 20 years. IRW-Iraq was amongst the few aid agencies those were on the ground since 2003. Islamic Relief Worldwide Iraq is implementing several projects in the sector of livelihoods, WASH, Education, and Seasonal Projects.
Job Purpose:
To lead hygiene promotion activities and support the hygiene team leader in IDPs camps, This includes conducting hygiene awareness sessions for IDPs and schools, supporting the distribution of hygiene kits and Food Items (FIs), and assisting the hygiene team leader and senior project officer with technical work related to WASH facilities maintenance, water quality monitoring, cleaning campaigns, and other related interventions.
Terms of Reference (TOR)
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordination & Daily Activities
Work under the supervision of the Hygiene Team Leader to implement daily hygiene activities in the camps.
II. Follow the project plan and schedule to conduct hygiene awareness sessions.
III. Participate in regular briefings with the Hygiene Team Leader to discuss progress and challenges.
- Hygiene Promotion & Awareness Activities
Conduct hygiene awareness sessions for IDPs, including community members and school students, on personal hygiene, safe water use, sanitation, and waste management.
II. Support hygiene campaigns and community activities in the camps.
III. Use IEC materials during sessions and ensure key messages are clearly delivered.
- Material Distribution & Field Support
Support the distribution of hygiene kits, Food Items (FIs), cleaning supplies, and school materials.
II. Assist in preparing beneficiary lists and ensure proper documentation (signatures, lists).
III. Ensure distributions are fair, organized, and well recorded.
- Technical & WASH Support
Support basic monitoring of WASH facilities and report any issues to the Hygiene Team Leader.
II. Assist in water quality monitoring activities when needed.
III. Report any risks or problems related to water, sanitation, or hygiene in the camps.
- Monitoring & Reporting
Collect data from hygiene sessions and activities.
II. Submit daily and weekly reports to the Hygiene Team Leader.
III. Share challenges and feedback from the field to improve activities.
- Administrative & Logistics Support
Support the Senior Project Officer and Hygiene Team Leader in following up on invoices and payments.
II. Assist in checking local shops/markets for purchasing project-related items when required.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
- Bachelor's or diploma in Public Health, Nursing, Education, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Experience:
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in hygiene promotion, preferably in camp settings.
- Experience working with children and schools is a strong asset.
- Familiarity with PHAST and CHAST approaches is desirable.
- Experience supervising hygiene teams or volunteers is an advantage.
Languages:
- Fluency in Kurdish and Arabic. English is an asset for reporting and coordination.
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills, especially with community, IDPs, and children.
- Experience in planning and supervising hygiene campaigns.
- Understanding of community mobilization and hygiene behaviour change techniques.
- Ability to report clearly and manage data collection tools.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
Work Conditions:
This position is based in the Country Office (CO) in Erbil, with daily travel to camps located in Hassan Sham and Dibaga.
Involves regular interaction with IDPs, children, community, hygiene promotion staff, contractors, and camp management.
