Description

Main Purpose: To strengthen emergency care delivery, team performance, and system preparedness by combining expert emergency clinical practice with simulation‑based training, clinical coaching, and Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) preparedness and response training for doctors, nurses, and paramedics, in alignment with ATLS, ACLS, PALS, and disaster medicine principles.

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Simulation Program Leadership (SIMS)
  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Emergency Department simulation‑based training program.
  • Contribute to the structured simulation aligned with Iraqi MOH guidelines and MSF verified ATLS, ACLS, PALS, Mass Casualty Incident, and acute mental health emergency standards.
  • Ensure simulations reflect real emergency department conditions, workflows, team dynamics, and resource constraints.
  • Coordinate scheduling, participant selection, and integration of simulations into routine clinical operations.
  • Ensure simulation activities promote patient safety, teamwork, and system learning rather than individual blame.

 

  1. Training in Basic and Advanced Life Support including ATLS
  • Participate in the design and facilitate simulation scenarios focused on:
    • Trauma assessment and management
    • Adult/Pediatric cardiac arrest and peri‑arrest care
    • Pediatric and neonatal emergencies
    • ABCDE assessment and management
    • Prehospital assessment and managment
  • Reinforce algorithm‑based decision‑making, leadership, and prioritization through repetitive practice.
  • Ensure teams demonstrate correct use of airway management, defibrillation, medications, and resuscitation equipment during simulations.
  • Provide targeted coaching to improve adherence to evidence‑based life support protocols.

 

  1. Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) Training & Preparedness
  • Contribute in the design and run tabletop exercises, functional drills, and full‑scale MCI simulations.
  • Train multidisciplinary teams on:
    • Disaster triage systems and surge management
    • Command structure, role allocation, and communication under pressure
    • Ethical decision‑making and allocation of scarce resources
  • Integrate MCI scenarios involving trauma, medical, pediatric, and mental health casualties.
  • Evaluate MCI exercises and provide structured feedback and recommendations.

 

  1. Mental Health & Acute Emergency Training
  • Contribute in developing and facilitate simulation scenarios addressing acute mental health presentations, including:
    • Agitated or aggresive patients
    • Identifying and detecting common mental health concerns (suicide, depression, anxiety, psychosis, PTSD)
    • Substance‑related mental health crises
  • Train staff in:
    • Sensitisation and appropriate responses to mental health presentation
    • Rapid mental health assessment, risk evaluation, and risk management
    • Person-centered care, non-violent de‑escalation, communication skills, and trauma‑informed care
    • Safe team approaches to behavioral emergencies
    • Safe and appropriate referral pathways
  • Emphasize patient dignity, staff safety, ethical decision‑making, appropriate escalation pathways.
  • Support integration of mental health into general ER, trauma, and MCI simulations.

 

  1. Ongoing Clinical Teaching
  • Provide structured clinical coaching for doctors, nurses, and paramedics
  • Teach and monitor triage procedures according to Iraqi MOH protocols and/or IITT protocol
  • Observe team performance and provide constructive feedback on:
    • Leadership and task management
    • Clinical reasoning and prioritization
    • Communication and teamwork in high‑stress situations
  • Adapt coaching approaches to experience level, promote reflective practice and continuous professional development.
  • IPC managment

 

  1. Debriefing & Reflective Learning
  • Lead structured, non‑judgmental debriefings
  • Use debriefing frameworks to encourage reflection, learning, and psychological safety.
  • Address technical and non‑technical skills, including leadership, communication, and emotional impact.
  • Capture learning points and translate them into training or system improvements.

 

  1. Interprofessional & Team‑Based Training
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary training involving doctors, nurses, paramedics, and support staff.
  • Strengthen team coordination, role clarity, handover, and escalation processes.
  • Promote standardized approaches to emergency care.
  • Encourage equal participation and mutual respect across professional groups.

 

  1. SGBV Emergency Care Training
  • Develop simulation and case‑based training on Sexual and Gender‑Based Violence in ER.
  • Train staff on:
    • Identification and sensitive clinical management
    • Confidentiality, documentation, and referral pathways
    • Appropriate use of Post‑Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)

 

  1. Vulnerable populations Care (child and adult)
  • Review training material and assess its correspondance to protection law
  • Train staff on:
    • In collaboration with other staff, identifying social and protection needs
    • Confidentiality and privacy of vulnerable populations
    • Pathways for special care of vulnerable populations
    • Referral requirements based on law and human rights

 

  1. Quality Improvement & Patient Safety Through Simulation
  • Use simulations and coaching to identify system gaps, safety risks, and training needs.
  • Support ER leadership in protocol development and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in morbidity and mortality reviews from a systems‑learning perspective.
  • Promote a culture of safety, preparedness, and continuous improvement.

 

  1. Equipment, Environment & Training Readiness
  • Ensure simulation and training sessions include correct use of:
    • Resuscitation equipment
    • Airway devices
    • Defibrillators and emergency medications
  • Integrate equipment readiness, failure, and resource‑limitation scenarios into simulations.
  • Support staff competence in safe, rational use of emergency resources.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Requirements:

Education

Essential: Medical doctor with a specialization in Emergency Medecine.

Desirable: Trainings on ATLS, ACLS, PALS, Mass Casualty Incident (MCI), and acute mental health emergency standards.

Experience

5 years’ experience in Er medicine

Desirable: coaching or training experience.

Languages                        

Essential: Fluent Kurdish and English
