Background:

Sahara Economic Development Organization (SEDO) is an Iraqi National NGO it was established in November 2007 as an independent NGO with its main office in Tikrit city. It focuses on developing the economic sector by providing business management training courses and counseling services to entrepreneurs and potential investors, enabling them to contribute to the local economy efficiently. SEDO is considered among the most effective and qualified organizations in Iraq. It has conducted economic studies on the business environment in Iraq, identifying business opportunities and market niches for potential investors in Iraq. SEDO started humanitarian intervention in Iraq to respond to the urgent need for our beneficiaries, its work in the WASH, Livelihood, protection, Food security, and Education sectors.

 

Main Purpose:

The Education Volunteer is responsible for supporting the education project team in the successful implementation of the activities in the framework of the project “FORSA” once the project is approved. The volunteer will be mainly responsible for identifying the children out of schools, registration, following up with them, monitoring, reporting, and maintaining relations with stakeholders.

 

Job Description

  1. General monitoring of the implementation of the project, guiding the team in the planning and scheduling of the education activities.
  2. Conduct field visits to supervise the activities according to the planned schedule, as well as ad hoc visits according to needs.
  3. Monitor results’ achievements and targets reached against indicators.
  4. Ensure the activities are fully documented through attendance sheets of participants, pictures, videos, and ad hoc reports.
  5. Ensure systematic and timely data collection and guarantee the data entry is regularly updated as per the standard monitoring formats and in coordination with the SEDO MEAL department.
  6. Provide a monthly report to the Operation Director/ MEAL Manager, providing updates on the activities of the overall project and highlighting challenges and solutions.
  7. Ensuring quality implementation and achievements of results related to Education activities through observation, application of standard education tools and FGDs with beneficiaries.
  8. Provide updates about topics affecting beneficiaries.
  9. Supervise the teachers and learners' improvements and daily challenges to assess the impact and quality of the education services provided.
  10. Propose new/ tailor/ adapt activities according to identified needs and suggest solutions for problems encountered during the implementation.
  11. Support the Project Manager/ Education Project Manager and Education Coordinator in the design of educational training contents and supervise training correct implementation and results.
  12. Coordinate timely implementation of all aspects of the project related to the education activities in collaboration with the Education Manager/ PM.
  13. Supervise and manage the education team staff (education monitors) and volunteers (education outreach workers and education facilitators).
  14. Assist in the management of the resources of the project.
  15. Assist in programs related tasks such as raising PRs, developing lists of education material, forms and templates, translations of documents, activities, and educational material.
  16. Support the Education Manager/ Education Project Manager and Education Coordinator in strengthening the local network, authorities, and other NGOs/Agencies.
  17. Establish and maintain positive working relations with authorities and relevant stakeholders in the community to ensure cooperation and success of project implementation.
  18. Establish and maintain positive working relations with DoE and MoE, ensuring constant information sharing, reporting, and coordination.
  19. Establish and maintain positive working relations with school supervisors, the school’s Principals and teachers, ensuring the link between non-formal and formal education.
  20. Contribute to the identification of new opportunities for education projects and to improve the education strategy of SEDO.
  21. Take part/ conduct assessments in the same and/or different areas from the project’s implementation site when required.
  22. Participate in trainings and workshops on education-related topics and other capacity-building activities according to the project needs and requests from the Education Manager/ Education Project Manager and the Education Coordinator.
  23. Represent SEDO in meetings and working groups as required by the Education Manager/ Education Project Manager.
  24. Ensure adherence to SEDO and donor's administrative rules and regulations.

  26. Perform any other task not listed here and necessary for the implementation of the project activities or the mission program as requested by the Project Manager.

 

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Skills/Competences

Essential

  1. Previous experience in a similar position/tasks with N/INGOs (2 years).
        University degree in Humanities and/or similar.
  2. Strong knowledge of the Education system in Iraq.
        
  3. Adherence to humanitarian principles and code of conduct, in line with SEDOS' principles, values, and regulations.
  4. Fluency in Arabic and good skills in English.
  5. Good IT knowledge and skills.
  6. Ability and willingness to travel across the assigned project areas at short notice and spend extended periods with communities.
  7. Previous experience in supervising educational activities.
  8. Knowledge of Child Safeguarding policy and PSEA.

 

Desirable

  1. Previous experience in developing educational material for training.
  2. Previous experience in relating with DoE and MoE.
  3. Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  4. Strong diplomatic, interpersonal, listening, and communication skills.
