Brief description of the organization

Yazda Iraq is a local organization registered in both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It operates as a subsidiary of the global Yazda organization and adheres to the same mission: supporting vulnerable communities, particularly those affected by genocide and mass atrocities. In Iraq/KRI, Yazda implements programs focused on advocacy, legal assistance, humanitarian aid, and community and survivor empowerment initiatives. The Country Director leads these efforts, ensuring they align with organizational goals and respond effectively to local needs.

Background

In partnership with GIZ/Civil Peace Service (CPS), Yazda is conducting an MHPSS Needs Assessment to identify existing gaps in service provision and inform future programming for the Yazidi community in Iraq. The assessment will collect data from approximately 1,134 households and key informants across IDP camps, returnee areas, and urban settlements in Duhok and Sinjar.
Data Collectors will play a key role in the field implementation of this assessment, ensuring accurate, ethical, and trauma-informed data collection that reflects Yazda’s commitment to survivor-centered and rights-based programming.

Job Purpose

The Data Collector will support Yazda’s M&E Unit in implementing the MHPSS Needs Assessment through household surveys and key informant interviews. The role aims to ensure high-quality, ethical, and timely data collection that meets project objectives and aligns with Yazda’s safeguarding and confidentiality standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in training sessions on data collection tools, ethical procedures, and field protocols.
  • Conduct household surveys and key informant interviews using KoboToolbox.
  • Ensure informed consent is obtained and confidentiality is strictly maintained
  • Apply trauma-informed and culturally sensitive communication with respondents.
  • Submit accurate and complete data daily to the M&E Officer.
  • Participate in daily team debriefings to discuss progress and challenges.
  • Report safeguarding concerns or urgent psychosocial issues immediately in line with Yazda’s referral pathways.
  • Support validation and verification activities when required.
  • Provide short end-of-assignment feedback summarizing field experiences.

Deliverable:

By the end of the assignment, each Data Collector is expected to deliver:

  • Completed and validated datasets from assigned household surveys and key informant interviews submitted via KoboToolbox.
  • Daily data submission reports confirming progress and data quality.
  • A brief end-of-assignment summary outlining field observations, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.

  • Prior experience in data collection within humanitarian or MHPSS projects.
  • Familiarity with KoboToolbox or other digital data collection tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Fluency in Kurdish (Kurmanji) and English; Arabic is an asset.
  • Ability to work respectfully with survivors and displaced populations.
  • Commitment to Yazda’s safeguarding, confidentiality, and code of conduct.
