Background:
Sahara Economic Development Organization (SEDO) is an Iraqi National NGO it was established in November 2007 as an independent NGO with its main office in Tikrit city. It focuses on developing the economic sector by providing business management training courses and counselling services to entrepreneurs and potential investors, enabling them to contribute to the local economy efficiently. SEDO is considered among the most effective and qualified organizations in Iraq. It has conducted economic studies on the business environment in Iraq, identifying business opportunities and market niches for potential investors in Iraq. SEDO started humanitarian intervention in Iraq to respond to the urgent need for our beneficiaries, its work in the WASH, Livelihood, protection, Food security, and Education sectors.
Main Purpose:
The Climate Change Assistant is responsible for managing and guiding all Climate Change activities under SEDO's project in Hetra district in Nineveh governorate. He/she is responsible for ensuring the excellent management of the local initiatives and coordination with the project coordinator to ensure the successful implementation of the designed activities in the framework of the project. Providing strategic advice, ensuring effective implementation of the activities, monitoring, reporting, and maintaining relations with stakeholders.
Job Description
- Coordinate with the project Coordinator to implement the climate change part in the assigned project.
- Coordination with the local community and local authorities in target areas to design and implement the climate change initiatives.
- Provide technical support for the SEDO and the other stakeholders in implementing the climate change activities.
- Coordinate with other teams in other sectors inside the same project and other projects for complimentary the work in the targeted area.
- Assists in the review of relevant documents and reports; identifies priorities, liaises with relevant parties.
- Coordinates programmes and reviews the assessments of issues and trends for the implementation of programmes and projects, and the preparation of impact evaluation or equivalent studies.
- Supervises preparation of various written outputs, e.g. background narrative reports, analysis, substantial sections of reports and studies, and inputs to publications.
- Contributes to consultative and other meetings, conferences, including proposals for agenda topics, identifying participants, and preparation of documents and presentations.
- Participates in activities such as the structuring of training workshops, seminars, and makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.
- Leads field missions for the climate change sector, including the provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties.
- Provides advice on the development of policies and strategies, as well as national protocols and guidelines for projects with specific domains related to SEDO's work.

Skills/Competences
Essential
- University degree in environment and/or similar.
- Strong knowledge of climate change in Iraq.
- Adherence to humanitarian principles and code of conduct, in line with SEDOS' principles, values, and regulations.
- native in Arabic and basic skills in English.
- Good IT knowledge and skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel across the assigned project areas at short notice and spend extended periods with communities.
Desirable
- Ability to work independently and under pressure.
- Strong diplomatic, interpersonal, listening, and communication skills.
