Background:

Mercy Corps is a non-governmental organization with two main headquarters globally, one in Portland, USA, and the other in Edinburgh, UK. The core mission of Mercy Corps is to alleviate suffering, poverty, and oppression by helping people build secure, productive, and just communities. The organization officially began its operations in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region in 2003, working in coordination with both the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), implementing a wide range of programs and responding to the needs of Syrian refugees and internally displaced people (IDPs).

Objective:

The objective of the Multi-Year Resilience Program (MYRP) – Phase II in Iraq, led by Mercy Corps, is to support schools and learning centers by providing both formal and non-formal education across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The program aims to rehabilitate and rebuild schools, promote access to sustainable and inclusive educational services in communities affected by crises, and restore a sense of safety, protection, social well-being, and hope for students. In addition, the program places importance on training and deploying qualified teachers, strengthening school management systems, and ensuring that schools, government institutions, and local partners have the necessary resources to maximize the project’s impact and achieve its stated goals, namely, the development of a sustainable, inclusive, and equitable education system.
