MSF / Baghdad Covid-19 response team is seeking for: MEDICAL DOCTOR
Main Purpose:
MSF is currently supporting health structures in the Baghdad area for the Covid-19 response. Within this crisis we are searching for medical professionals that can work in a quickly changing environment and are able to learn new skills in a short time and teach these to the staff of the supported structures (Hospitals, ICUs, possible other healthcare facilities)
MSF is supporting Al Kindi hospital with ICU, ward organization and infection prevention and control.
The main goals of the project are to improve the standard of care for the ICU by working closely with the hospital to train the staff and to supervise the activity and the management of the ward.
The main purpose of the position is:
- Introduction of standardized ICU care in an MSF/MoH joint project. Facilitating trainings and connecting MSF standards with needs of the project while achieving best possible quality.
- Work closely with the MoH and the project expats to improve quality of ICU care and follow up of patients after ICU care.
- Identify and discuss with MoH doctors which patients need ICU admission and support a safe transfer.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
- Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and prevention. Carry out outpatient and inpatient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment respecting MSF protocols.
- Keep the patient and/or his/her family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, checking they have understood.
- Follow up the evolution of the hospitalized / ICU patients, through daily visits, consultations and examinations, prescribing the necessary treatment following MSF protocols, deciding whether they can be discharged or transferred to other departments – in collaboration with other doctors- and informing their family about the patient’s evolution.
- Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and take care the quality, disinfection and sterilization of the medical material. Assure general compliance with standing hygiene standards.
- Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its validity and informing the line manager or project coordinator about any problem or complication of the patient’s illness, medical error and monitors the proper functioning of the department, equipment or material.
- Ensure ongoing training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team in order to optimize the quality of care.
- Knows and ensures all MSF medical protocols are followed and implemented, checking universal precautions are followed at all times and reducing bio-hazard risks and improving infection control. Ensures professional confidentiality is respected.
- Understand guidelines (MSF, MoH, WHO) and apply them.
- ICU and Covid protocol implementation, maintain clinical ethics and patient care.
- Training of doctors, nurses, anesthetist technicians and other health care workers on ICU protocols
- Facilitate interactions of international staff with Al Kindi staff (translation, assist in meetings, and assist in facilitating meetings with key staff). Facilitate the expat doctor and nurse to improve the management of the ward (sterilization, pharmacy, work organization)
- Support ward rounds in ICU, help team facilitate management and communication with colleagues and specialist.
- Accessible for new trainings, bedside and classroom.
- Team work to execute objectives of the project
- Adapt to different work environments.
- Take initiative.
- Help according to needs in other parts and in other functions throughout the MSF mission. Since this is an emergency response flexibility is utmost important and expected.

Education |
Medical Doctor diploma Desirable diploma: Internal Medicine OR Anaesthesiology

Experience |
· 2 year experience minimum as a Medical Doctor or in clinical work (can be within medical training). · Experience in exploring respiratory, cardiovacular and neurological system. · Understanding the basics of ICU/ RCU, preferably ecperience in this type of ward · Desirable previous experience with Triage and ER · Desirable previous experience with ICU care · Desirable previous experience with MSF or other NGOs. |
