Job Purpose

  • Providing Legal support i.e., consultation, validation of documentations and guidance on legal cases in Oxfam Iraq country programme.
  • Providing support to country director in arranging meetings, visits and correspondences.
  • Ensure all Kurdish visas and residency for staff are done effectively and efficiently

Key Responsibilities

Technical
Legal and Visa support:
  • Provide legal advice and consultation on all legal issues, related to matters both within the KRG and Federal Iraq. Services to be provided upon request include preparation and review of contracts, agreements, legal documents, security, visa and residency issues for expatriate employees.
  • Make sure all the policies and procedures of the second party are in compliance with the current local laws
  • Responsible for defending the rights and the legitimate interests of the organization.
  • He/she is responsible for drafting and reviewing the legal filings and drafting and technically correct opinions.
  • He/she is responsible for maintaining client relationships working on a visa process.
  • He/she needs to interpret and apply the theoretical legal knowledge so that it applies to practical business solutions.
  • He/she needs to prioritize work so that the deadlines can be met.
  • He/she provides assistance in providing legal solutions to the problems that have cropped up and ensures that it is in compliance with the current laws.
  • The legal officer in addition to the above responsibilities, is involved in drafting and reviewing agreements, producing technically accurate quality standard work, drafting technically correct opinions and reviewing the reports.
  • Supporting Management in employee relation issues, legal cases and validating organisation documentation and processes in line with law of land.
  • Liaises with the government for KRG visa and residence permits in close consultation with HR.
  • Arrange for blood tests and visa validation
  • Collecting/completing relevant documentation for visa etc. depending on need
  • Will act as focal point for international/ national staff movement
Support to management:
  • Arrange and organise meetings for country director.
  • Manage country director calendar.
  • Arrange visits for Country Director and facilitate management’s visitors plans and travel.
  • Update staff movement board on regular basis.
  • Preparing agendas for the management meetings.
  • Taking minutes of meetings where the CD participate is requested
  • Supporting the Country Director in various tasks and administrative works.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills
Experience, Knowledge, Qualifications and Competencies
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law with at least 5 years’ experience in Legal and Admin support roles.
  • Knowledge of legal matters
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of Iraq and KRG Labour Laws.
  • Experience in liaison with Government entities. Knowledge of visa and residence processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work effectively with teams.

  • Proven organisational and administration skills
  • Ability to use your initiative.
  • Flexibility and Ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English, Kurdish and Arabic.
