Terms of Reference (ToR) for a Trainer on business management

 

Project title: Strengthening the resilience of conflict-affected people and stabilising communities by creating risk-sensitive livelihoods

Projects aims to contribute to sustainable socio-economic development to rebuild resilient communities with future perspectives for vulnerable people, in particular youth and women in Salahaddin, Iraq.

Within the framework of Sub Objective 1, Janat al Frdaws, main implementing partner of ASB, Iraq, aims to empower 180 at-risk women, youth, and returnees across Sallah al Din, by deepening their knowledge in entrepreneurship and professional skills relevant to their occupational fields. The overarching goal is to enhance their sustainable employment opportunities and foster economic resilience within their communities.

At-risk individuals residing in the project districts face a significant barrier to economic empowerment due to a lack of essential knowledge, skills, and entrepreneurial necessary to initiate and manage successful businesses.

Through training initiative on economics and soft skills, Janat al Frdaws seeks to address this challenge by equipping in total 180 women and youth with comprehensive knowledge of business and financial management to create business-plan. The goal is to enable them to develop innovative business ideas and strategic plans tailored to their unique circumstances and aspirations.

By the project's end in 2028, these 180 women and youth will not only possess the requisite skills and knowledge but will also receive apprenticeship in relevant businesses and tangible support to establish, consolidate, or expand or create their own income-generating businesses.

Objective of Contract on training on soft skills and economics:

Out of 12 training session covering 180 beneficiaries planned for 2024, in frames of the current contract the trainer on business management will conduct 1 comprehensive training session, consisting of 10 training subjects, over a period of 5 days per session. The aim is to update up to 15-20 trainees on soft skills and business management and enhance their economic self-resilience in the Sallah-al Din of Iraq.

Target Audience:

Youth willing to open their small business, 15 participants per group. The groups compositions may be adjusted based on logistic and participants availability.

The scope of Training

The scope of the training program encompasses a diverse range of topics aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of the participants. Attached is Attachment 1, which outlines 10 potential training topics for each training session. These selected topics will be carefully chosen to ensure a comprehensive and well-rounded learning experience for the trainees.

The location of the training will be discussed additionally.

Methodology:

The training sessions will employ interactive methods including lectures, discussions, case studies, role-plays, group exercises, and practical applications.

The trainer will be supported by Janat al Frdaws’ facilitators as required to ensure the smooth implementation of the training program.

Expected Result:

1 session for up to 15-25 trainees who will develop comprehensive business plans by the end of the contract.

By the end of the training sessions, participants are expected to:

  • Have updated knowledge on soft skills and economic principles.
  • Develop skills in business planning, financial management, marketing, and risk assessment.
  • Enhance their ability to navigate the business environment and improve economic self-resilience.

Evaluation of participants:

Regular evaluations will be an integral part of the training program to assess participants' understanding and progress. The evaluation plan will include pre-tests, post-tests, and training reports after a training session.

Also, the trainer will help trainees to develop their business plans and will evaluate it.

 

Qualifications & Preferred Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in business, economics, education, or any related field
  • Holds accredited training certificates in the field of entrepreneurship
  • Proven experience in delivering training sessions on topics related to entrepreneurship, business development, and soft skills development – starting from 5 years.
  • Strong understanding of economic principles and their practical implications for entrepreneurship and self-resilience.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate interactive learning experiences and engage participants in discussions and activities.
  • Experience working with groups from diverse backgrounds and cultures, with sensitivity to cultural differences and varying levels of expertise.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative and team-oriented approach, with the ability to work effectively with facilitators and other stakeholders to achieve shared goals.

 

Salary expectations: a training day fee to be stated in the Cover letter or CV

Duration:

The contract duration – 1 month, commencing from 1st April 2024.

This TOR will cover further new potential and collaboration assignment (if requested by JF) related to trainings on business for the rest of the planned 12 sessions and can be extended.

Note: Any adjustments to the training program will be made in consultation with stakeholders to ensure alignment with the objectives and requirements of the program.
