Description

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a neutral and independent international humanitarian organisation, which assists and protects victims of armed conflicts and other situations of violence. The ICRC is currently looking for staff for its operations in Iraq.

Objective:

 

To ensure the work of the Health department is managed efficiently and effectively in line with an established guideline.

 

The MHPSS Field Officer (FO) is responsible for providing training to relevant actors, NGOs, institutions in Baghdad, and other governorates and contributes to developing the training materials together with the MHPSS Delegate. The MHPSS FO is in charge of conducting MHPSS activities at group and individual levels and providing supervision when needed. The MHPSS FO, translates documents, provides interpretation (from Arabic to English and Vice versa) during meetings and training, arranges meetings, prepares field trips, writes reports, and does other administrative tasks. The MHPSS Field officer, in collaboration with the MHPSS Delegate, is also in charge of doing the mapping of actors and maintains it updated.

 

Key Responsibilities:  

 

 Under the supervision and with the support of the Mental Health Delegate, the Field Officer is responsible for the implementation the MHPSS program in Iraq, according to the MHPSS plan.

  • Develops, implements and follows up on MHPSS activities at local and national level.
  • Implements MHPSS activities directly through individual sessions or group sessions.
  • Organizes referral of beneficiaries and performs case follow-up.
  • Complying with ICRC standards, sets up culturally and context-appropriate monitoring and evaluation tools and ensures regular data collection.
  • Develops and maintains contacts with health authorities, academia, technical advisers from other organizations, etc. as necessary.
  • Creates and maintains direct links with MHPSS programme beneficiaries.
  • In close collaboration with the MHPSS delegate provides MHPSS training to relevant actors and institutionsProvides ongoing supervision and support to consolidate the knowledge and skills gained during training through regular visits, case discussion, accompaniment and observation visits.
  • Maintains regular communication with MHPSS delegate and/or Health Coordinator, providing data and programme updates.
  • Attends MHPSS cluster meetings and any other required meetings.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of other MHPSS related interventions in other files according to the needs identified by the Delegation (e.g, Families of Foreign Fighters in Places of Detention).
  • Actively participates in the identification of needs and target populations for MHPSS intervention
  • Entering and analyse data from internal and external sources and contributes to written reports
  • In collaboration with the MHPSS Delegate, does the stakeholder mapping and keeps it up to date
  • Provides interpretation (from Arabic to English and Vice versa) during the meetings and translate the MHPSS related documents ensuring that confidentiality is respected.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Education and Professional Experience required:

  • University degree in Psychology (Clinical Psychology desirable)
  • 3 to 5 years of overall professional experience with minimum 2 years’ experience in MHPSS programmes
  • Previous experience with ICRC or another International Humanitarian Agency is an asset
  • Experience in training and supervision
  • Knowledge in the grief process and related issues
  • Strong sense of responsibility and adaptability, able to work overtime when needed
  • Flexibility and ability to work independently and with a sense of initiative
  • Ability to cope with stress and emotional situations
  • Highly developed analytical, planning, communication and organizing skills
  • Excellent level in English and Arabic language, Kurdish is an asset
  • To be able to travel and stay overnights working for the ICRC in the field (outside Baghdad)
