Job Summary

The Livestock Assistant will be responsible to support the Livestock Officer in the implementation of Samaritan's Purse's Economic Activities for Returnees to Ninewa (EARN) Program in Sinjar, Iraq. The Assistant will spend most of their time in villages throughout the program area providing livestock trainings and demonstrating best practices. The Assistant will also support with the animal distributions as well as distributions of the livestock supplies. The Assistant will participate in surveys and assessments to select beneficiaries and monitor the successful implementation of the program. The Assistant will make frequent field visits to beneficiary villages to provide hands-on livestock technical support. The Livestock Assistant will also participate in other relevant SP programming work assigned to him/her.

 

Job Duties:

  • Mobilize and identify vulnerable families within the program area to engage in goat keeping.
  • Conduct baseline/endline surveys with beneficiaries in the program area.
  • Facilitate livestock trainings in coordination with Livestock officer and demonstrate best practices for caring for goats.
  • Provide support for the beekeeping program with beneficiary selection, distributions, and follow-ups with beneficiaries.
  • Provide technical guidance and serve as a general resource to beneficiaries on animal husbandry during follow-up visits.
  • Support with the distribution of goats and bees as well as related supplies.
  • Troubleshoot challenges within assigned activities and present proposed solutions to the Livestock Officer and the Agriculture and Livestock Program Coordinator.
  • Follow SP, humanitarian, and programmatic standards of quality and excellence.
  • Assist the Livestock Officer in compiling and drafting reports, financial documentation, beneficiary documentation, and other programmatic related documents.
  • Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Agriculture and Livestock Program Coordinator, Livestock Officer, or Program Manager.

Education / Experience Needed

  • Must have relevant livestock/animal husbandry experience especially in relation to goats.
  • University degree in Livestock Management, Animal Husbandry or other related field preferred, but not required.
  • At least four years relevant work experience with goats, sheep, chickens, bees, or other livestock.
  • Work experience with INGO’s is preferred, but not required.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word & Excel is preferred.

LANGUAGE 

Arabic and Kurdish required; English is strongly preferred.
