Description

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is a neutral and independent international humanitarian organisation, which assists and protects victims of armed conflicts and other situations of violence. The ICRC is currently looking for staff for its operations in Iraq.

Objective:

The Weapon Contamination Department aims to protect civilians from the risks associated with conventional weapon. enabling safer access to services by vulnerable communities and improving ICRC operational continuity

 

The Weapon Contamination Assistant supports the development and implementation of the WeC strategy and activities under the guidance and supervision of the Weapon Contamination Coordinator (WeC Co). The WeC Assistant will support the implementation of qualitative and standards operations delivered by the WeC field officers deployed in the ICRC sub-delegations. S/he leads the implementation of the partnership agreement with the Iraqi Red Crescent (IRCS). S/he networks coordination, and mobilizes various actors working in this field.

 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Supports the strategic development, implements directly, or supports the implementation and monitoring of ICRC WeC and IRCS activities.
  • Contributes directly to ensure continuation in operations, helping vulnerable people and supporting the National Society to develop its competencies.
  • Contributes to assessing and analysing the security, socio-economic, cultural, and political environment as relevant to the ICRC on the local level, and shares information on these subjects with colleagues.
  • Collects, compiles, and reports on WeC-related information.
  • Translates/interprets as required by the department.
  • Participates in the development and execution of WeC related safety training.
  • Conducts quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) of ICRC FOs and IRCS teams’, ensuring those activities are done following respective guidelines, standards, and best practices.
  • Supports the implementation of the ICRC multidisciplinary approach with a particular focus on sharing information collected on casualties needs and impact of explosive weapons on affected communities and support the analysis for identifying the corresponding needs for assistance in affected communities.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Education and Professional Experience required:

  • A university degree in a discipline related to humanities, management, international studies, public relations, psychology military/police studies or similar field.
  • At least 5 years of overall professional experience.
  • 2 years' work experience in WeC/mine action or a similar field is an advantage.
  • Experience with Mine Action is strongly recommended.
  • Experience supporting projects and evaluating development or humanitarian projects.
  • Previous experience with the ICRC or other humanitarian agency is an asset.
  • Very good command of written and spoken English and Arabic.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Academically or professionally proficient in a technical WeC-related subject or pedagogics is an advantage.
  • Excellent teaching and presentation skills.
