Purpose of the position
The Project Agronomist will work closely with the project field team, partners and government line departments and will be responsible for the implementation of all livelihood-related project activities, in the fields of agriculture, livestock and horticulture.
Overall Objectives
To improve living conditions of IDPs and returnees in Anbar Area through cash for work activities and agricultural techniques.
Task, responsibilities, results
Support implementation of project-related activities in the field:
· Supervise data surveys in the target regions, taking into account the project-specific target groups
· Plan, implement and coordinate activities defined in a project proposal with a particular focus on agriculture
· Develop individual/community based agricultural concepts, innovative ideas and opportunities to further support the rural population to improve their living and income conditions by implementing improved production, post-harvest, marketing approaches, taking into account and assessing existing practices
· Implementation of activities and organizing project distributions in the field
· Prepare weekly/monthly activities and report on them to the line manager
· Introduction/promotion village-based peer educator (lead farmers) systems where applicable
· Plan, organise and conduct agricultural-related training activities (workshops, seminars, training courses) for DoA staff
· Initiate demonstrations, exchange visits among producer groups at the project level
· Contribute relevant details to reports to the country office as well as to donors
Administrative and representative tasks related to the position:
· Make sure that local decision-makers are informed/ involved in project activities and maintain a cooperative contact with officials
· Cooperate with other NGOs working in the geographical area and field of agriculture
· Prepares field data for transfer to the internal M&E system to enable the project to be timely and quality/quantity-related documentation of project progress. This includes comprehensive field data, pictures, quantities as well as success stories
· Assist Head of Projects, short term consultants and visitors during field trips
· Any other additional responsibility, in coordination and agreement with the supervisor
· In addition to the above-related responsibilities, the Agronomist may be asked to carry out other duties as requested by the Senior Project Management Officer and/or by the Head of Project
· The position is based in Ramadi but will require very frequent travels to the project areas (in the Governorate of Anbar)
Competencies
Knowledge & Experience:
- Minimum of Bachelor degree in Horticulture/Agronomy, Agricultural Education and Extension or Related Field
- Minimum three (3) years of work experience in a similar position with national or international NGOs is a competency asset
- Able to communicate very well in English and Arabic
- Excellent computer skills especially with MS Word and Excel and presentation related packages
- Able to work on a high level with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Excellent reporting skills
- Proven capacity to prepare and conduct training on agronomy for beneficiaries
- Previous experience in ToTs in agriculture-related topics
