Overview

Un Ponte Per (UPP) is an NGO established in 1991. It has started its activities as “Un ponte per Baghdad”, right after the end of the war in Iraq, with the aim of organizing solidarity initiatives in favor of the Iraqi civil society. Later on, the intervention of Un Ponte Per started including Serbia and other Middle Eastern and Mediterranean countries. The NGO mission is to prevent new conflicts, protect human rights and support civil society, especially in the Middle East, through humanitarian and development programs, always supporting the local civil society. UPP is active in Iraq since 1991 and is regularly registered at National and Kurdistan Region levels.

This project, entering its second year, is aimed fostering the livelihoods and employment of Dhi Qar Governorate, focusing on the natural and cultural heritage of the governorate.

A Sports & Nature Club in Dhi Qar, in Chibayish, will be opened for youth to learn and share experience in sport. The sports club will help spreading knowledge on respecting biodiversity, cultural and natural heritage. We will collaborate together with an existing club. For this we will construct or rehabilitate existing infrastructure such as a peer/storage space etc. The construction for the club will involve boat experts and will respect the environment and culture of the area. The boat activities of the sports club will be open for youth in Dhi Qar in order to learn and share experience in the sport, with an emphasis on traditional sports boats. Periodic competitions will be organized involving local youth.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor the construction work in the sports club and maintenance of existing structures;
• Design sports activities in the sports club, focusing on traditional boats and rowing;
• Together with the Field  Coordinator manage the relationship with local authorities;
• Reach out to local youth in Chibayish to participate in the club;
• Mentoring and managing the relations with beneficiaries;
• Collecting data on the beneficiaries;
• Monitoring the activities and the results achieved against the project indicators;
• Report to the line manager in a timely and accurate manner;
• Ensuring data collection for M&E requirements;
• Liaising with local partners, donor and relevant stakeholders;
• Participating in relevant coordination meetings;
• Performing any other task assigned by the Field Coordinator or Project Manager

Education: 

• Relevant university degree.

Experience:

• Minimum 2 years of experience in coordination roles.
• Knowledge and familiarity with livelihood projects.
• Geographical area knowledge of Thi Qar.
• Fluent English and Arabic.
• Computer literacy (word, excel, outlook, internet);
• Availability & ability to undertake additional assignments and flexibility to multi-task work.
• Planning skills in terms of drafting work plans, priority setting, capacity to match deadlines;
• Ability to engage youth;
• Demonstrable skills in administration
• Working experience with NGOs and local authorities

• Affinity with heritage and environment, sports

Personal skills:

• Flexibility, good communication and organizational skills.
• Sense of responsibility, ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Highly approachable and trustworthy.
