About SEED: SEED is a locally registered NGO in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. SEED’s mission is to protect, empower, and support the recovery of survivors of violence and others at risk. SEED is committed to delivering quality and holistic approaches, combining international expertise and local know-how to achieve results for the people of Iraq and Kurdistan. SEED’s programming focuses on three key objectives: 1) the delivery of transformational, comprehensive services including case management, mental health, and legal services, as well as psychosocial support activities; 2) strengthening the capacity of service providers through education, training, and capacity-development programs; and 3) ​promoting policy and social change to strengthen rights and protections for vulnerable groups and individuals through public awareness, technical assistance, and advocacy.

Role Summary: SEED is seeking a Finance Assistant to join our team in Erbil. The Finance Assistant will support daily financial operations, including processing payments, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with SEED’s financial policies. The position will involve regular coordination with internal teams and occasional travel to other project sites in KRI.

Responsibilities

Cash Management

  • Ensure full understanding of and adherence to SEED’s policies and procedures.
  • Manage office cash and related instruments responsibly and securely.
  • Maintain daily cash books and cheque payment records.
  • Verify supporting documents and budget codes for all payments before disbursing funds.
  • Process staff/vendor advances and refunds with appropriate documentation.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payment processing and posting in the accounting system.
  • Conduct weekly and month-end cash counts and reconciliations.

Financial Transactions & Recordkeeping

  • Post authorized transactions in the accounting system for Accounts Payable and Receivable.
  • Maintain organized and accessible records, both in soft and hard copies.
  • Verify posted transactions against source documents and propose adjustments as needed.
  • Support the Finance Manager in maintaining up-to-date ledgers for financial reporting.

Bank and Administrative Support

  • Coordinate bank-related activities including deposits, withdrawals, and transfer requests.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and ensure timely resolution of discrepancies.
  • Prepare and submit letters and other documentation to the bank as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation of internal financial reports and statements.
  • Provide general support to the Finance Manager and broader finance team.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Essential criteria:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or other relevant degrees
  • Very strong computer skills especially MS. Excel
  • Proactive, innovative, collaborative, and resourceful with a learning and growth mindset
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong ability to work independently, including the ability to multitask, prioritize competing tasks, and manage time effectively
  • High standard of spoken and written English; Kurdish and/or Arabic
